I’m a researcher for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at the MIT Media Lab. We’re developing an experimental methodology for 1) Understanding new ways of utilizing open software for empirical experimentation and 2) How different blog layouts affect user behavior.
To start with we’re looking for bloggers who are interested in deploying our wordpress theme and the experimental plugin that accompanies it. Your site caught our eye and meets our requirements. We wondered if you might be interested in participating.
We’re currently running the theme at our site, http://www.creativesynthesis.net/blog/ The theme has three principles views (a more traditional style, small text boxes, and an image box style – as well as light and dark versions).
We should also point out that the plugin that comes with the theme records the mousetracking information about your visitors, and you are required to turn it on if you are running the theme. All of the communication is handled through AJAX calls, so in the event of any failure your site won’t be affected. In the near future we plan to make this information available to experimenters with some basic visualizations.
Obviously this design is not for everyone, however if you would like to participate go ahead and download the theme. You can also subscribe to the experimenter rss feed for updates. Over the next few months we’ll be hosting design discussions based on analysis of moustracking on different sites. Everyone who is running the theme will be able to participate in the discussion.
Feel free to email me with any quetions.
Apologies for the unsolicited posting, and thanks for your time.
